Have you been a victim of Recruitment Scam? Latest Phishing Scams & Fraudulent Job Postings

626 has recently become aware of instances where bad actors use company brands to post fictitious job descriptions and make fraudulent job offers. In some cases, these individuals may ask for money, banking details, or other personally identifiable information.

These scams have become more common, sophisticated, and often appear as legitimate recruitment activities and often appear through third party websites or direct email approaches.

This scam, or ‘recruitment fraud’ as it is known, is becoming increasingly common.

Here at 626, we take these threats and the safety of our team members very seriously. At no point would anyone from 626 ever ask for money, credit card, or bank account information to complete a job application or conduct daily business. As always, please exercise extreme caution when sharing personal information. We sincerely hope by highlighting these developments, unsuspecting individuals will not be duped by these scams.

Communications you receive directly from 626 are only sent by e-mail addresses ending in weare626.com. Applications for job posts advertised through the We Are 626 Careers site provide a secure portal for you to enter your details as part of our formal recruitment processes.

Here are a few ways to identify phishing scams:

Look out for generic emails — Scammers try to cast a wide net by including little or no specific information. Always be wary of emails which seem overly generic.

Incorrect domain names or email addresses — Check for misspellings or incorrect numbers in ‘weare626’ or non-626 email addresses (i.e., gmail.com, yahoo.com). 626-approved emails will come from email addresses ending in weare626.com.

Request for financial information or payments — 626 recruiters will never ask prospective team members for payment to apply for a position or as a condition of employment.

The “perfect” job — A job posting which states extremely high compensation for a position that requires “no skills or experience,” seems too good to be true, and is likely to be fraudulent.

626 team members can report a suspected or potential phishing email message using the button in the top, right-hand corner of your Outlook application. Instances of text (smishing) or phone call phish attempts should be noted and sent via email to itsupport@weare626.com.
